Prior to 1980, Edward J. Devine had mortgage banking and appraisal experience, and insurance experience including sales, underwriting and claims. Between 1980 and 1984 Devine was a full-time student at Roger Williams University School of Engineering in Bristol, Rhode Island where he earned an Engineering Technology (A.E.T) degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture. After completing degrees, he interned in a design and engineering office and was employed by a construction firm as a project manager. 

Lifespace Corporation was founded as a sole proprietorship in 1985 and incorporated in 1989 as an architectural design and engineering firm. Within the first year, building inspection and assessment and environmental testing was added. Devine completed requirements to earn the credential of Certified Environmental Laboratory Director and Lifespace Corporation added environmental testing to its list of services. After additional coursework and industry training, Environmental Phase I Site Assessment was added to our list of services. Since that time, Building & Property Condition Assessment and Phase I Environmental Site Assessment have become our only services and we strive to continuously update and improve our protocols, technology and final deliverable.
